Things to know before choosing Invisalign

Things to know before choosing Invisalign

7 things which you need to know before choosing Invisalign. Invisalign is, of course, the best alternative to conventional braces. However, you should be aware of limitations and certain inconveniences before starting with Invisalign. Here are the few which you should know before Invisalign

1. Attachments are placed on your teeth before Invisalign

Attachments are tiny material which is stuck on some of your teeth before giving Invisalign aligners. These tiny materials will help Invisalign to move the teeth in the exact manner in which your dentist would want it to move. These are tooth-coloured material, which would be almost invisible. You should expect that attachment may be placed on more than a few teeth if not on all the teeth.

2.  You may not be able to wear lipstick during Invisalign treatment

The lipstick material will easily stick to the aligners and it may appear awkward when you smile. Be prepared to give up lipstick and coloured lip gloss during Invisalign treatment.

3.  You need to wear Invisalign aligners almost round the clock

The minimum recommended time for wearing Invisalign is 22 to 23 hours in a day. This means that you cannot stay away from it at all. The only time when you can remove it is during brushing and while having food. Be aware that chances of losing aligners when you are having food outside is very high.

4.  Kissing is tricky/embarrassing

Your lover cannot avoid the feel of plastic while kissing. It might be embarrassing. But if he/she is understanding this is not really a concern.

5.  Stains around the attachments

The attachments can easily pick up stains from the food which you have. It may be coffee or the turmeric which is used in the dishes. The attachments are made up of composite resin which can absorb stains more than what your teeth do. After a few months of wearing Invisalign the stains around the attachments can become more obvious. Your dentist may help you by doing polishing or by replacing the attachments.

6.  You may eat less than before

It has been noticed that Invisalign wearers tend to snack less than their contemporaries. The need to remove the aligners before eating is itself a deterrent not to snack in between. This may help in reducing a few pounds.

7.  You will need retainers after Invisalign

You will need retainers after completion of Invisalign treatment. Your dentist may give you the option of Invisalign’s vivera retainers or fixed retainers which are placed on the inner aspect of your teeth. There is no escape from wearing retainers.
