When Invisalign doesn’t work?

When Invisalign doesn’t work?

Before starting Invisalign treatment should know when Invisalign doesn't work.

Invisalign is the new kid on the block, with it’s advanced technology it has become quite popular in a short period of time. The advantage that Invisalign provides over conventional braces is the one which is making it so popular among teenagers as well as adults. However, there are some concerns about Invisalign not working. In this blog, we discuss some conditions where Invisalign may not be suitable.

Broken or crooked teeth correction with Invisalign

Invisalign will not correct the shape of the teeth. Just like regular braces, it would move the teeth from one position to another, but it will not change the shape of the teeth. You may have to get your teeth reshaped or get a veneer/crown/filling to get the perfect shape of the tooth.

Crossbite correction with Invisalign

What is crossbite?

Ideally when you clench your teeth, your upper teeth should be a little outside and the lower teeth should be slightly inside. But when the reverse happens, that is if upper teeth are inside and lower teeth are outside then we call it as a crossbite.

Crossbite would be difficult to treat with Invisalign. The recent advances with Invisalign will correct crossbite to some extent but it may be best treated with conventional braces.

Closing Gaps between teeth near the gums with Invisalign

Invisalign may close the gaps between teeth. However, if the gums are already receded and you have gaps between the teeth near the gumline, Invisalign would not correct it. You may require additional treatment to close these gaps.

Large gaps closure between teeth with Invisalign

If the gaps between teeth are up to 6mm, Invisalign would effectively treat the condition. For gaps of more than 6mm, it would really take very long to treat with Invisalign.

Impacted teeth correction with Invisalign

Impacted teeth are the ones which do not erupt (not come out) and are present within the bone. With conventional braces and few surgical methods, these teeth can be brought into the position. With Invisalign, it would not be possible to get these impacted teeth to its' position

These are few of the conditions where Invisalign may not work. Discuss with your Invisalign provided to know whether you are suitable for Invisalign.

Developing Science of Invisalign

Invisalign is developing treatment science, hence, the conditions which we may now think that may not be treated with Invisalign may later be eligible to be treated with Invisalign.
